This was created for Parents.com for an article about summer family roadtrips. Aimed to showcase a happy family on the cusp of an adventure, this illustration demonstrates how the journey can be just as fun and exciting as the destination.

Additional ideas for this illustration can be found below as sketches, which also aim to showcase road trip adventures with various other family members, as well as potential summer destinations.

An editorial illustration of a family on a road trip adventure, including a pet dog and two kids, by Anna Hurley.

Option Concept 1: Scenic Overlook

For this concept, the road tripping family has disembarked from their car for a photo opportunity. It gives the viewer the idea of a road trip without actually showing the family in the car. And who doesn't like stopping to take a memorable photo at a scenic overlook?

Option Concept 2: Fun with Grandparents

For the concept below, the family has arrived at their destination and are now unpacking and greeting the grandparents as a stop along their road trip. Most people remember going on trips like this in their youth, so it has a nice familiarity to it. It was also an opportunity to showcase a same gender couple for the editorial.
